Orchardleigh’s indefinable English charm is testimony to the Estate changing family ownership only twice in the last 800 years. Veiled in a tranquil bowl of parkland and lakes, it’s horizon a sweeping backdrop of rolling Somerset hills, the Poet Laureate Sir Henry Newbolt (1862 – 1938), was inspired to write his finest works from his love of Orchardleigh and it’s Island Church.

St Mary’s Island Church
The Orchardleigh C of E Island Church is available for Religious Ceremonies and has an advised capacity for 100 guests.
St. Mary’s, Orchardleigh enjoys the unique setting of being at the edge of a lake with a moat around the Church. Hence it is often referred to as ‘The Island Church.’ Its remoteness means there is no electricity supply to the church which means all our services are candlelit and the organ has to be pumped by hand!
The picturesque setting, the lack of electricity and the traditional services mean that many of those who visit the Church enjoy an unforgettable experience. Many of the regular congregation travel miles in order to be here, and would miss the character (and characters) of this unique church.
There is a strong link between Orchardleigh Church and Orchardleigh House for wedding receptions.
Orchardleigh House is licensed for Civil Ceremonies with a capacity of 144 guests.
Banqueting facilities are available for up to 400 guests.
Catering is provided by our own in-house executive Chef. The executive chef and team will carefully design a menu to suit your individual tastes and requirements.

Golf on the Estate
Orchardleigh Golf Club was designed by Brian Hugget and built during 1994, with much of the construction work undertaken by the existing green keeping team.
The course is set in established parkland, which gives a feeling of maturity beyond its years. The 6800 yard par 72 course has been built to a high specification with exceptional quality greens.
The practice facilities are excellent with full length practice range, practice bunker, chipping and putting greens.
Orchardleigh’s parkland course offers 18 spectacular holes routed through mature trees with water coming into play on seven. It certainly is a challenging but rewarding golfing experience, yet amidst the stunning Somerset countryside it’s a haven of peace and tranquillity.
Preferential rates have been agreed for you and your guests on a ‘Pay and Play’ basis
